Some Lists About Fear

Some unusual fears I have: Albino spiders Most animals that live in the water (except sharks) Losing an arm from the shoulder down Losing a leg from the hip down Pronouncing a word wrong in front of people Submitting assignments to teachers while in the same room as them Driving with people I don't know very well SLUGS. Some fears that most people have but I just sorta don't: Losing a limb from the elbow/knee down in a car crash Spiders (I am afraid of the white ones though) Heights Bats Snakes Rats/mice Things that start with D that conservative Christian slightly-older-than-middle-aged adults are maybe probably afraid of: Debt Death Deadlines Divorce Danger Drunk drivers Demons (?) Drag queens Diversity Drug dealers

Yesterday was a Good Day and Here's Why

Yesterday, while I was sitting sadly in the MMU lobby after math class, I got a snapchat from Bella. Now, this was not an ordinary snapchat. No, this snapchat was about pie. It was an apple crumble, with the caption "A kid in math class brought in food and now we are kind of having a party.". The only correct response to that is one that conveys jealousy, and sadness. Bella jokingly responded, "come and get some!". I think most of you should know that any chance for apple pie, sarcastic or not, is one I won't give up. With only a handful of minutes until I needed to be on the bus, I abandoned my bucket in the mostly empty lobby and speed walked through the halls. Bella's math class was on the other side of the building, so I had to rush if I wanted to get both the pie and my bus. Finally, I approached the door of Katie Parker's math 1 class. It was open, and inside I could hear a woman talking about how many seconds are in a minute.  I strode int...

A List Of Really Great Conversation Starters

A List Of Really Great Conversation Starters (as told by your favorite socially awkward llama): (I would also like to mention that all of these I have either done, thought about doing, or seen someone else do.) "I know this is kind of personal, but what are your opinions on quinoa?" (while holding a golf ball wrapped in tin foil) "Want to hold my dragon egg?" When the loudspeaker at the Big Scary High School calls for somebody to come down to the office, go down to the office and pretend to be the person they called for. Identity theft is a great way to make friends!  Hold your hand out for a fist bump while saying "High five?" Offer somebody a smiley face sticker! Walk into a room and say "Hydrate or diedrate!" to remind people to drink water.  Ask someone to rate something random on a scale of 1-10. I find that people typically have a lot of things to say on velcro and celery. Celery is a very good topic of debate. Squint at someo...

Harvest Market

Harvest market is something special. I'm not usually a huge fan of large crowds, but there's something kind of magical about how a place transforms once it's full of people. The street I drive down on the way to school becomes full of life. Tents and signs dot the sides of the road, people fill the sidewalk, and the air smells of food. Booths cover the field, lining up in perfectly planned rows. It's interesting, how a spot usually so quiet becomes an odd sort of festival. The Coop had a booth, selling (by donation) bike powered smoothies and upcycled glasses. I liked being able to have a home base, and stay at the market, just watching people and existing in the middle of a place full of life. I'd be lying if I said I didn't also stay to get to hang out with some Coop kids. Vermont Youth Dancers danced in the parade, and it was the closest I've came in a while to having fun. I enjoyed myself. We danced the chorus to the finale, shouting "Five six s...
