Projects!

I've started a lot of projects this Summer and finished... none of them! Four weeks left till school starts, so here's what I have to (maybe) wrap up.

I'm making an instrument out of plastic bottles and bike valves. Basically, I've drilled holes in the caps and pumped different amounts of air into them, so when you tap them they make different pitches. Currently, I still need to get a few more bottles, and I also haven't tuned any yet. I have a system ready to hang them, so I'm really just waiting till I find a good system to tune them. I don't know how to understand any of the tuning apps or devices, and I'm not great at doing it by ear, so if you have ideas, or if you're capable of either of those things, let me know. I might need help!

I'm collecting data on emoticons! My google form, which if you haven't already filled out, you can here, is collecting information on birthdate and whether you use :) or :-). So far, I've had over 100 responses and am making graphs! I originally thought that people younger than a certain age (I was thinking around 27) use :) and people older than that age use :-) but so far it is not looking like that is the case. The majority of people (around 75%) use :) so now I'm wondering if that is partially a VT thing and might work on getting responses from other places too.

I got 7 doors (free, from Nice Guy Jim from front porch forum!) and I'm painting them, making frames, and putting them on wheels to use in a dance piece! I'm working with my friend Finn, and we're not super sure of the piece's concept yet, but it will probably have unsettling vibes, maybe with a maze theme? We are searching for the perfect piece of music, and have found a few candidates. I have also painted the doors white, bought wood, knobs, and hinges, and we built frames the other day. Next, I'm painting frames, building wheel platforms, painting those, and then assembling everything! I am hoping to film the finished product, but we are still very much in the "construction and creating" phase (or the "painting and planning" phase) so I am not fully sure what the end result will be. I do have some great ideas floating around my brain for various door canons, formations, and patterns, though I am not sure how many of them are achievable. I am hoping to finish building and choreograph this Summer, and then teach and film sometime during the school year (in the new Synergy space, ideally!), which I think is achievable.

Not so much a project as a general New Life Thing: I'm a foster mom to feral kittens! We got out first kitten last Wednesday. Roscoe (Or "Roscoe Carson Dumpster Circle Babey") is very cute, and is warming up and adjusting well. Fostering is not as easy as I expected, but I am learning so much and think it is a very valuable experience.

I had a goal of doing a lot of paddle boarding this Summer, which I have not really done much of! I bought a really nice board at the beginning of the Summer, so hopefully I'll get back to the Adirondacks a bit these next few weeks. There's a 4 mile paddle that my grandma really wants to do, and I am looking forward to that.

Anyway, enjoy your last 4 weeks of "freedom". I am counting down the days... can't wait to have a regular routine with school again!
