Choreo Camp
This past week was VYD's Choreography Workshop, but I worked Monday through Wednesday and just showed up for Thursday and Friday. Syd and Finn gave me their Thursday afternoons too, so I could have time to complete a longer piece. This years theme was props, so I picked 3 large yoga balls for mine.
My piece was themed around planets and orbits, and went to "Circles" by Oliver Tank. We accomplished about 2 and a half minutes of choreography over the course of Thursday, though most of it I had planned out ahead of time. The yoga balls were sort of a challenge to work with, because they have a bit of a mind of their own and the MMU stage isn't perfectly flat, so we couldn't really put them down. They do take a bit of the pressure off of the floor though, and allow gravity to be used in new ways. I got a lot of compliments on it, and now I'm working towards adapting it into a 9 planet dance, (BECAUSE I LOVE PLUTO LEAVE ME ALONE). Ideally, the finished product would have the yoga balls be a bit more accurate to color and scale, and individual planet movement style relying more on the temperature and material of the planet. I'm not sure if it'll ever be able to actually be danced, but the idea is still pretty cool and it's a fun little project.
One of my coworkers is a huge space nerd, and I'm afraid his enthusiasm has started to rub off. Don't worry though, I'm still not a science person. I accidentally said that Jupiter has rings the other day. (Which, I mean, technically it does? Just not nearly as well known as Saturn.)
When I have a video of Circles for you guys, I'll try to post it.
Only 3 weeks of work left, so if you want to drive me LET ME KNOW SOON.
